Do Portugal Circus was born from a family whose passion for performance runs deeper than tradition — it’s in our blood. For over five generations, our family has lived, traveled, and grown through the circus. What began decades ago in Latin America has evolved into a global journey filled with artistry, culture, and connection.
We’ve performed in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and now across the United States. Every city, every audience, and every child’s gasp of wonder carries our legacy forward.
Origins of
Do Portugal Circus
Every great circus has a legendary beginning, and ours starts with a story told from generation to generation. They say that in the late 1800s or early 1900s, a priest from Portugal arrived in Mexico to serve a small town. He lived a quiet, disciplined life—until the day the circus came to town.
His young son was instantly captivated. The colors, the music, the laughter, the daring performers… it was everything a child could dream of. And just like many kids dream of doing, he ran away with the circus.
But his father had other plans. Determined that his son would follow in his footsteps, the priest chased the circus to the next city, brought him back home, and insisted, “You will be a priest like me.”
A few years later, another circus arrived—and once again, the boy disappeared with them. And once again, the priest went after him, returning with his son and the same firm words.
Then came the third circus.
And the third escape.
This time, the priest simply sighed… and gave up. His son’s heart belonged to the circus, not the church.
Five generations later, his decision shaped a legacy. From a single runaway child to a family dedicated to wonder, we now carry the Portugal name across eight countries and countless performances—still chasing the magic that started it all.
